Alaska Digest, 4/19/13

Roles Reversed Dept:  Why Alaska's Senators voted against the anti-gun amendments. The Democrat says it was the wrong thing to do; the Republican tries to rationalize it.

Still Can't Figure Out Simple Math Dept:  Critics of the recently-passed tax cuts on oil production have begun a referendum to repeal the law.  Hint: as joated pointed out in comments the other day, lowered taxes mean more oil pumped. More oil pumped means higher overall revenue for the State. You're welcome.

You Can't Always Get What You Want Dept: New restrictions have been placed on king salmon fishing for 2013, due to last year's lower counts.

You Can't Always Get What You Want, Part II Dept: The Unalaska Police Blotter hasn't been updated since April 4, so no free ice cream from Dutch Harbor. I'm as disappointed as all y'all are.

The Times They Are A-Changin' Dept: Those of you interested in Alaskan weather, etc, will be interested to note that sunrise today was at 6:22 am, and sunset will be at 9:35 pm. There's enough light to walk outside at 5:30 am, and well after 10 pm. After all, the summer solstice is only two months away.

Now if it would just warm up. Dang it. :^)

NO POLICE BLOTTER!!!

Has the crime wave come to an end? Do warmer weather trends have an opposite effect in the frozen tundra lands?

Preppy, I'm thinking "not". Wouldn't surprise me if they're so busy, they don't have time to publish.

Here's hoping you get warmer weather soon!

I'd export some of mine to you, if I could! (Perhaps my mistake was never taking the two-weeks-in-warmth christmas vacation; I've still got a couple years down here to go to get the last of the cold out of my joints.)

Wing, that's part of our problem: we didn't get a mid-winter vacation this year. Darn it.

It will warm up (for the 4th) and immediately go back to winter... :-P

That's not fair, NFO. We have a good three months of warm-ish weather. It's only chilly if you're from Tucson. :^)
