The Luckiest Guy in Alaska

State Troopers Say Fairbanks Man Uninjured After Falling into 75-Foot Crevasse

In an Associated Press story at www.adn.com,
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska State Troopers say a 41-year-old Fairbanks man is safe after being rescued from a deep crevasse near Delta Junction.

Troopers say Tom Douglas was among snowmobilers conducting ice and snow tests Thursday for the Delta Soil and Water Conservation around Jarvis Glacier.

Douglas was leading a group of snowmobilers when he and his machine fell into a crevasse. He fell before landing on a ledge at least 75 feet and his snowmobile was wedged into a narrow space 30 feet above him.

I can tell it was written it was written by someone Outside, because we call 'em "snowmachines" up here. But the rider is a VERY fortunate fellow!

Very fortunate, indeed! So many things could have made this much, much worse for him.

That's very true.

Now if he had landed on a ledge with say some hawt snowmobiler chick dressed in a bikini and had to keep her warm he would have been the luckiest guy in the world!!!!

Just brainstorming.

Preppy, I guess I've been married too long ... that wouldn't have occurred to me. But you're right. :)

Wait a minute. I can't drop 10 inches into a chair without aching a little . . .
Just how could you drop 75 feet onto a ice ledge with no souvenirs to show for it ?!

Uninjured must have an entirely different meaning up thar !

Cathy, when you drop 10" into your chair, you're probably not wearing a helmet, gloves, padded snow bibs, elbow & knee pads, and stiff boots. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if he slid a large part of the way. Either way, a VERY fortunate man!
