It's Police Blotter Time: "Metal and Rubber" Edition

from the Dutch Harbor Telegraph:

DUI – Caller reported a possibly intoxicated driver. Officers contacted the suspect and found that he was not intoxicated but rather a new driver using an iPod and cell phone while attempting to safely control several thousand pounds of metal and rubber. The officer issued the young man a warning.

Civil – A man with limited English believed he may have been fired from his job. With the help of an interpreter and a phone call to the man’s supervisor, an officer was able to determine there had simply been a misunderstanding and the man was eligible to continue working.

Theft – An officer convinced a man who had reported his backpack was stolen from a foyer while he was outside smoking, that he really ought to check the last place he had been before he stepped outside to smoke. Though the victim was certain his backpack could not possibly be there, he was pleasantly surprised to find that in fact it was, with all items intact.

Assistance Rendered – A harried mother brought her daughter to UDPS because the child’s tantrums were becoming increasingly exasperating. An officer deputized the little girl and encouraged her to set a good example – which did not include tantrums – for other children.

Assistance Rendered – Officers helped locate a man whose mother believed he may have had a medical emergency. The intoxicated man advised he was not in need of any assistance, but accepted the medication his mother had sent for him.

Suspicious Person/Activity – Caller reported that a woman who has obtained a protective order against him appears to be trying to set him up for a violation, and asked that officers conduct additional patrols of the areas that he frequents.

Trespass – Officer issued a trespass advisement to a customer who had behaved badly when he was stuck with the bill for several of his good friends, all of whom had left without paying.

Yep. I thought that was particularly inspired wisdom. We may never know if it worked, though.
