The Long Way Home

It's Friday, I've got a new ride, and decided to take the scenic route home.

Okay, it's not exactly on my way, but I wanted to see how the new SUV handled steep grades and a bit of altitude.

This route goes from 200 feet above sea level to 3,000 in about 20 minutes.

You get a bit closer to the peaks seen from town.

A few other folks are up there, enjoying the trails, atmosphere, or scenery.

A lot of the snow has melted; the parking lot berm's only about twice the height of the Escape. It's May, after all!

gfa, I was a bit disappointed that the road up there is now fully paved. It used to be bad asphalt, turning to bad dirt & gravel. Wanted to see how the new buggy handled that, only ... not so much. Pfooey.

Wow, your long way home is truly an adventure! We might pass a couple of cows and an Amish buggy....

Thanks, Stephen. If they'd had a red one, I'd have snapped it up in a heartbeat. As is, I'll just make do. :)

threecollie, since Anchorage is built along the feet of the Chugach range, there's no place here where mountains aren't within a few miles. The widest point in Anchorage is only about 5 miles from the 3,500-ft peaks.
