One passenger was killed and six others aboard a de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver were rescued after the plane crashed near Petersburg on Tuesday, according to a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Here's another story about the crash.

The lodge-owning Anchorage family whose Cessna crashed just off Ingra Street in 2010 -- and whose young son was trapped in the burning wreckage and died -- is blaming the disaster on companies that manufactured and worked on the plane's engine. That's despite the fact that the National Transportation Safety Board has already concluded that severe overloading of the plane was the likely cause of the crash.

and Ingra Street on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Some residents of a flood-raked town in Alaska's interior are starting to repair their homes, even before state emergency managers officially assess the widespread damage.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says 90 percent of the homes in Galena were affected in last week's flooding caused by a massive ice jam on the Yukon River.

The flood washed out roads and the sewage lagoon and it knocked out power, which led to the spoilage of hundreds of pounds of game meat in freezers and refrigerators that could attract bears to the community of almost 500.

And, as Paul Harvey used to say, here is a strange:
A man was arrested and charged with assault Monday after severely biting an off-duty Anchorage police officer who was volunteering at a soup kitchen.

Aviation is inherently dangerous... Especially up in your neck of the woods!

I sure wouldn't argue with that, NFO. Too many pilots have died.
