A man was mauled by a bear near the Eklutna Lake Campground on Saturday after he threw barbecued meat at the animal, the Alaska State Troopers said Sunday.
The man was at the lake, north of Anchorage, for a church picnic, said Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.
“He’d been drinking,” she said.
The unsurprising details, here.

The bear was expexting some good ol' Memphis Pork BBQ and that goof tossed him some beef brisket from Texas with some mustard based sauce.
I'd have mauled him too.
Dumb, alcohol induced or otherwise, can be terminal.
I'm with you, Matt. Thick, red, tangy sauce, grilled on the meat over an open flame ... this is making me hungry. :)
PH, agreed. Stupidity often provides its own reward.
Ya can't make this stuff up. One wonders about the limits of human folly - then you read an account like this - and you understand - there IS NO LIMIT.
And one has to admit the irony . . the knee-slapping humor in this statement:
"He may be charged with illegally feeding wildlife."
I mean . . . if a bear makes a meal out of me, was I, indeed, feeding him illegally?
Rev. Paul,
I would have to agree with Matt. He wanted the good stuff.
Cathy, I've not heard of anyone being charged with that ... but it doesn't mean it hasn't happened. :)
Agreed, Sandy.
Drinking? In Alaska?
It's a shock, I know.
