Sorry 'bout that. Just haven't been feelin' it, lately. But all y'all made me promise to keep going, and so I have.
One commenter even said he'd be happy if all I posted was the Unalaska Police Blotter and our local weather forecast. That bar's not too high to clear, even for me.

You remember I recently linked to a story about a Celebrity Cruise ship that was stranded in Seward because of electrical/propulsion problems?
That same ship is has become stranded again, in Ketchikan, where the Coast Guard has ordered it to remain in port until the issues are fixed permanently, and not just with duct tape like last time (apparently).

I've also mentioned that we've had mostly rainy weather since the 1st of the month. Several area streams and rivers are now at or near flood stage, and there's a small stream advisory in the area.
Bicyclists Notice Water Level Changes at Eklutna Lakeside Trail (KTUU-TV / August 20, 2013) |
Chester Creek in Anchorage is out of its banks in low-lying areas in several city parks, as hiking/biking trails are submerged thereby. And parts of the Eklutna (e-KLOOT-nuh) Lakeside Trail (some 26 miles north of Anchorage) have washed out, to name but one other example.

Oh - you'll also remember I recently wrote about the ferry boat which is owned by the Mat-Su Borough, for which there are no dock facilities.
Seems the Borough has decided to dry-dock the ferry, indefinitely.

It seems we're going to attend the Alaska State Fair in Palmer this weekend. Younger Daughter & her BFF announced their intention to go ... and since neither of them drives, we're elected to provide transport.
It'll be fun, hopefully somewhat drier than of late, and should provide blog fodder.

Rev. Paul,
It sounds like this ships needs to be brought back to shore and re-inspected thoroughly before ever going out again. We don't want to see a ship have problems and many people get hurt or die from a disaster which could have been prevented.
I have a problem with companies / people who don't want to be proactive and complete the required maintenance.
Sandy, the Coast Guard has ordered the ship to remain in port; it can't go back to sea until the repairs are completed.
If a private ship captain wants to gamble his own existence with a duct-tape-and-baling-wire repair, that's one thing. But not with over 2,000 passengers.
My former employer sent a plane up to help get folks home. I feel sorry for the passengers. I pray that all get home safe.
Amen!
Would really love to see pics of the Alaska State Fair...just to compare you know.
Okay, threecollie; you talked me into it. :)
yay! I get to see what I'm missing!
Wing, I'll do my best. :)
