A Long Morning, But a Good Day

and it's only 10:15.

I awoke at 3:40 this a.m.; not sure why, but there was no going back to sleep. I put on a pot of coffee & fired up the ol' laptop, taking care not to awaken the spousal unit.

Didn't work; she was up by 4:20. Doesn't know why, either.

But the coffee was good, and although I fell asleep for 10 minutes before breakfast, feeling pretty good overall.

Got the oil changed in Li'l Red, bought winter wipers for her car & mine, and made an abortive swing past the Ford dealer for a replacement vent control knob for the Escape. Seems they're closed for inventory. Handy, that.

Not.

But I'm back home where it's quiet. My wife is shopping, and both daughters are working today. When Younger Daughter is done, she wants to go drive some more & practice her parallel parking. The plan is that she'll take the road test on Monday & hopefully have her driver's license by lunch time.

We're looking forward to a time when we don't have to ferry her to/from work five days a week. We've been happy to do it, of course, but it's time she cuts another apron string & steps out on her own.

The weather promises to be partly sunny & 52 today, although it's still only 39 degrees now. But all's good, and it'll be a nice day.

Thanks for stopping by.

I've had a couple of those early wake-ups.
Not so good when it's still dark for so long.

As for your patient ferrying of your daughter . .

She's a lucky young woman . . and I'll get she knows it :)

It's good to get all that taken care of. Prolly more good for you v. Winter than me :)

I did the oil change and wiper thing last weekend. Today it started raining and I switched on the wipers and went "Why these things don't work for %$%&".

Then I realized I forgot to remove the plastic covering off the blades.

Cathy, she knows we've been patient ... but like any teenager, she forgets that when it's convenient. :)

Preppy, sounds like you have the flat or low-profile wipers. Those don't work well in the heavy snow. At least not for us. We need the broad sides of the tradition booted wipers to help push snow off the windshield in blizzards; the flat blades just slide back and forth under the snow without clearing, once the truck's in motion.

We spent the afternoon re-stocking up on basic supplies. We went through our supplies and made a list of things to buy that we wouldn't want to purchase, at a much higher price, if hyperinflation set in.

Your comment earlier this week on Pioneer Preppy's blog about a collapse during the next 6 months coincides with my suspicions and online readings.

Sounds to me like you did well, Matt. I just don't see how the nation's economy can stand much more of the Monopoly money that's flooding the market.

Like you, awake at 0400, opened my shop at 0645, like an idiot. Like Matt, shopped this afternoon for supplies. Great deals on rice. I too concur on six months, give or take. It's gonna be ugly.

I hear you, Stephen. As PioneerPreppy pointed out, the only unknown at this point is how badly the powers that be will screw us over, before the final breakdown.

What was with that three o'clock hour. We all woke up too and had trouble getting back to sleep.

I don't know, threecollie, especially since you & I are four hours' different in time zone, but it sure did go around.

Here's hoping the driving test goes well!

Thank you, Brigid - I'll tell Sam you said that.

Rev. Paul,

It's possible your body felt it had enough sleep and said time to rise and shine.

When I smell coffee brewing and I'm in bed, it's an automatic wakeup call for me.

Time for your insurance to raise a bit with younger daughter driving.

Good luck with the daughter driving!

Good luck to her with the driving test! A load off y'alls back for sure! And don't get me started on zero dark 30 wakeups... sigh... And if my body clock wanders by, grab it, I'll get it on the way back to Japan next weekend... sigh

That's a good thought, Sandy, but I was crashing again by 0800; only coffee kept my eyes open then. And thanks!

Thank you, Guffaw.

NFO, if I see that rascal, I'll send up a flare. :)
