British adventurer Sarah Outen arrives in rainy Adak on Monday, September 23, 2013, after rowing solo across the North Pacific Ocean. She set out from Japan in late April. |
Alaska's Still a Very Big Place Dept: The Associated Press says "Authorities on Monday suspended the search for a plane and its pilot missing near Yakutat.
"Alan Foster was last seen Sept. 9 when he landed his Piper PA-32 Cherokee at Yakutat, refueled and took off for Anchorage. Authorities said his airplane disappeared from radar at about 4 p.m. that day near the Malaspina Glacier. The airplane was not carrying an emergency locator beacon.
"The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center said in a release that all possible leads were investigated, but search efforts were unsuccessful in trying to find Foster."

Our weather has warmed up by a couple of degrees, so although there's heavy precip expected tomorrow, it should be wet rather than white.
That's all I have this morning. Thanks for stopping by, friends. Have a great day!

That boat looks awful big for rowing.
That could well be why it took her 5 months to get to the Aleutians, even with the Japanese Current helping.
Yep, that's a LOAD to be rowing... And probably a white PA-32... Not that it will be 'easy' to see...
NFO, they say the problem is in the plane's "older" locator beacon. But you already knew that, didn't you? ;^)
I think I've heard about this woman before. She's been trying to do this for quite a while. I'm always fascinated by people like her... why do they keep trying this stuff. But then again, she would have been one of the pioneers that made their way across the country in the first place.
Thank heaven my brain doesn't want me doing that kind of thing ;)
Teresa, you're correct - this is her 2nd or 3rd attempt. I'm kind of sorry I didn't try more things in that vein when I was younger.
