It Snowed Around On Us (Updated)

but not at the old homestead. Okay, so it's snowing heavily in town; with the temp at 34, it's not accumulating on the ground. Yet. And it's not like we won't see any snow this winter, so I'm in no hurry to begin the shoveling, scraping, idling the cars/trucks, driving on slick roads routine for the season. That'll come soon enough, too.

If I were to drive my alternate route to work today, I'd probably see some white stuff along the way. Sounds like most of the local snows (1" to 2") were above the 1,000-foot elevation on the east side of town. Today's accumulation is expected to affect those above 500 feet. That snow line moves quickly, once Nature decides to begin.

UPDATE: I spoke too soon. It was snowing when I left the house this morning, and a thin slush lay on the cars. It's too warm for the white stuff to stick ... but it's trying to, anyway.

There was apparently a 3.8 'quake about 1:20 this morning, but most slept right through it. That's a very minor shake, after all.

If you're interested in where & how the tsunami warnings for the Left Coast are issued, there's a brief article about the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center here. It's located in Palmer, Alaska, about 35 miles north of Anchorage.

And just to provide a well-rounded news summary, the voters in Homer, Alaska will vote next week on whether to ban light-weight plastic shopping bags.

There. Don't you feel edified? You're welcome.

Poor shopping bags may soon be endangered there.

But the snow won't be :)

Temp dropped here yesterday to 93*F.
No snow here, either.

Good, I hate those plastic bags. One became firmly attached to a tree limb outside my shop, high. It took two years for the darn thing to disintegrate. Enjoy the snow. Nice picture.

Concur, Stephen: those things are annoying. We recycle ours to bag up used litter from the girls' cats, but I see Homer's point.

Rev. Paul,

Everyone needs to be very careful driving with the snow and ice.
Enjoy the snow!!!

Thanks, Sandy. We might as well enjoy it; it's here until April or so, now. :)

Wow!

I'm not sure which aspect you're "wow"-ing, but I'm glad something impressed you.

Hey. Better to fall short of 'edified' than achieving 'horrified' ;-D

That's a good one, Cathy - thanks! :)

If they ban plastic bags have we now grown enough trees to make paper bags again??? This was the reason for the original switch to plastic as I recall. Or are they not allowed to use bags at all? ;)

Oh and Thank You.

Teresa, I'm old enough to remember when McDonald's eliminated paper boxes in favor of styrofoam for their burgers because of petitions to "save the trees". Then they eliminated styrofoam because those same environmentalists decried the styrofoam's inability to biodegrade. That cycle has repeated at least twice again, since then.

Ah yes, I remember that too. LOL. They keep going back and forth. It's a wonder we don't all have whiplash ;)

We've only avoided whiplash by dint of refusing to follow the vagaries of popular opinion. After awhile, the level of absurdity pegs out the proverbial meter. :)
