Gonna Be an *Interesting* Day

The National Weather Service issued a high-wind warning from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday for Turnagain Arm and higher Anchorage elevations like Upper Hillside. The warning predicted southeast winds of 45 to 60 mph with gusts between 80 and 95 mph.

They're also predicting nearly an inch of rain, with the accompanying flooding that the melting snow & ice jams will cause.

Whee.

From the Associated Press, we read:
WASHINGTON — Seeking to calm a furor over U.S. surveillance powers, President Barack Obama on Friday will call for ending the government's control of phone data from hundreds of millions of Americans and require intelligence agencies to get a secretive court's permission before accessing the records, a senior administration official said.

However, congressional officials say the moves would require approval from lawmakers, raising questions about how quickly - or even whether - the proposals could be enacted by a Congress that is divided over the future of the government's spying operations.

Everyone who believes this, stand on your head.

I'm putting the finishing touches on my newly-painted office, and hanging clock & calendar on the wall which was painted yesterday. I think it looks nice.

That wall on the right is actually a light brick red; not sure why it looks orange here.

Have a great day, my friends, and thank you for stopping by!

Nice office! We are in the middle of packing ours up so new carpet can be laid and walls painted. Dirty dirty dirty.

Thank you. I think I've found everything that I put away for the painters, and got it back out. I think.

Good luck with yours.

Warm colors, attractive art and model plane . . tidy . . .
Very nice :)

Thanks, Cathy. :)

Once again you are twice as warm up there as we are down here. That whacky jetstream :)

Yeah, it's maddening. There was a time, not many years ago, when Alaskans had no use for an umbrella, either. It's crazy.

Rev Paul,

Nice looking office, and paint color (did you pick the color)?
The color is actually soothing!!!

I would love to own one of those planes.

Can you imagine having one of those planes parked in a hanger??

Sandy, I picked the color - it matches one that appears in the painting above the bookcase. Thank you!

Your nice new office makes mine look like a junk yard.

Actually, I can - because I've seen some, here. There's a huge number of planes in this state. More planes than cars, actually, and quite a few are older floatplanes (like Beavers). There are a couple of biplanes at the Aviation History Museum at Lake Hood in Anchorage, too. Cool stuff.

That made me laugh, Stephen. It looked like a warehouse when I got here. I've spent the last five years cleaning it up, putting things away, clearing old junk out, and reorganizing. Besides, in this picture I've just rearranged the furniture & everything is freshly filed.

And my Navy background won't let me leave it in a mess, either.

You do some nice work Rev. I may have to hit you up for some decorating advice! My color coordination skills are sketchy at best. I have a really hard time with earth tones though I seem to do fine with bold.

As much as it pains me to admit it, Six, it was a lucky choice. I decided to match a color in that sailboat picture, and it worked. Without the painting, I'd have had a much tougher time figuring out what to do. :)
