Icy Morning

We've had some light snow overnight, which has now changed to freezing drizzle. AccuGuess thinks we'll get 1/10" of ice before 9 am. Just in time for the morning drive ...

It was quiet here yesterday, although Tuesday night from about 9:30 until just after midnight reminded me a lot of certain places I visited on Uncle Sam's nickel, while in uniform: a lot of incoming fire.

We just turned up the volume on the movie we were watching, and then went to bed with a fan running on high to mask part of the noise.

Have I mentioned that it's illegal to shoot fireworks in Anchorage? Yeah, right. It sounded like a busy day at the range, from where we sat.

Y'all have a good Thursday, whether or not you've gone back to work, and thanks for stopping by.

We used to get lots of 'friendly fire' on New Year's Eve, 'til a little girl was killed. Then, they passed a law and made finding the idiots a priority.
('Course, they never mention that certain cultures indigenous to our region are prolific when it comes to shooting in the air - that would be politically incorrect!)
Glad you all were safe.

No worries, Guffaw. 99% of what we heard was mortars (the fireworks kind) & large rockets. We usually only hear one or two actual firearms, and have never had an instance of holes reported. Whoever's doing it apparently has the sense to point it in a safe direction, thank God!

I go to bed at the usual time on New Years but at midnight I can verify that it sounds like an artillery engagement on the Mountain. Saw where LE got all sorts of calls about fireworks and gunfire, looked at the time and wondered if people really hadn't noticed that the same thing happened last year and the year before and the year before that...Chill, folks. It stops right about 12:05.

That's true, PH - it does taper off pretty quickly after midnight. But then, of course, we get the Jan. 1st reiteration of how nervous it makes all the pets. I don't even think they update the article any more; they just re-post last year's.

One benefit to living in the middle of nowhere... No one to make extra noise. LOL.

I know, Teresa. We miss living in the country, but this is where the jobs are.
