This probably isn't as interesting to you as it is to me, but I just researched the serial number on my M1 Garand: it was born the same year as me.
The geek in me finds that cool.
Okay, I told you it's more about me than you. But now I'm wishing I'd gone to the range with Older Daughter this morning.

You must have one of the last ones made unless I am getting you mixed up with someone else. Anyway mine was made in 43. They are something else!
It's a '55, only a year or two from the end Springfield Armory's original run. And it's a fantastic rifle. :)
Jeez that old? Does the bolt actually still work?
:)
LOL, now that is funny... So if you 'forget' your birthday, all you have to remember is the Garands... :-)
Rev. Paul,
That proves your well preserved my friend :-)
A great person, and a great gun!!!
Since you didn't go to the range with your daughter, tomorrow is a holiday for most maybe you can go tomorrow?
Just barely, Preppy. Barely. :)
Exactly! Or not.
LOL!
It's not a holiday for me, Sandy, but I appreciate the thought. :)
That cool.
Thanks, Senior.
Nice bit of luck!
Thank you, sir!
You and that gun. Handsome fellas . . .and so young:)
Aw ... shucks, ma'am. :)
And mine was made right about the same time *I* was born!
Wonder if the CMP knows something we don't.....
Mebbe so, drjim ... but it's COOL.
That is REALLY cool - I didn't know they made M1s so late though. ;)
Jenny, Springfield Armory made 'em through '56 - and other companies went even longer (until '61, I think).
And of course, now, Springfield Armory is making them again. Saw a white one at Freddie's last fall; asking price around $1195.00.
