Blast From the Past: "Polar Flight" (London-Anchorage-Osaka 1969)

Check out the fashions, the size of the seats, the meals, the ... well, you get the idea. This features the Alaska I fell in love with, so many decades ago. Never you mind how many. :)

I vaguely remember when flying was fun...

I do too, ma'am. I guess that makes us some of those "folks of a certain age".

Dang it.

Sometime during the late 80's one airline was offering flights from Anchorage to London. A radio commercial had two British voices, presumably a chauffeur and his wealthy employer discussing the new service with perfect aplomb. All through the commercial you heard squealing tires - seems the Alaskans hadn't mastered driving on the left.

Ah yes... that was COACH class... sigh

That's funny, WSF. Heck, in those days only about half the streets in Anchorage were paved - they hadn't mastered pavement yet! :)

I know, NFO. Sad, isn't it?

Ah the good ol' days!
And don't you love the 70's newsreel music ;)

The music ... ahh yes, the schmaltz. :)

Nice!

Keads - I experienced a bit of that level of service, in the early '70s, but it was mostly gone a few years later.

Finally got a chance to watch it. I so love this. Back in the day... oh my.

Teresa - it's why we used to like air travel. I have a real problem with today's cattle-car mentality, but whatcha gonna do?
