There's Not Much

drama going on here; leastways, not much to write about. We paid our annual pound of flesh to Uncle Sam. Was a bigger chunk this year, but doable.

The weather remains calm & warm (for us), with highs approaching 50 every day, and lots of sunshine.

Sunrise today was at 6:34 am, and sunset will be at 9:24 pm. It gets light for 40 minutes prior to actual sunrise, and stays light for at least a half-hour after the sun goes down. The summer solstice is only two months away. Now we need the grass to turn green, or leaves to come out, or something.

With overnight lows finally staying above freezing, the remaining snowbanks should melt faster. The one by our driveway is only about three feet high, now.

Speaking of snow, the weatherman mentioned, this morning, that we never did get the normal amount of snow this year. We're about 6 or 7 inches below normal for the season, which isn't too bad. 65" instead of 72" is ... well, okay. That 165" we received a couple years back was taking a good thing a bit too far, though. :)

I think we are still a bit behind moisture wise ourselves. It has been colder than usual of course but really this has been more the Winters I remember. Looking around the last few years you could always tell the newby gardeners from the old hats. The newbs had the gardens tilled and planted by April or May the old guys didn't even start finish tilling until May. This year has shown more than one newb why the old hats waited.

I hear you, PP. Our ground is still mostly frozen, if you go down a couple of inches. That's partly why the snow isn't gone yet. Well, that combined with freezing temps at night.
