Bargain Hunting: Happy Birthday to Me!

In my last post, I mentioned picking up a couple boxes of .30-06 for a total expenditure of $15, thanks to a gift card from a friend at work.

Well, I just got back from the Ammo Can, and they had several cases of '06 at $15.95/box. Of course, I grabbed half a dozen boxes.

That makes 160 rounds at $.69 per ... not bad. Not a huge purchase, but enough to help me feel better about making another trip to the range with the Garand.

Not a bad way to spend a birthday. :)

Well, Happy Birthday!

Is this specifically loaded for the Garand?

Rev. Paul said...

drjim, the WPA "classic" ammo is intended for the Garand. The other is standard ammo.

OK. I've heard Bad Things about using the wrong ammo in a Garand.

I bought 400 rounds from the CMP, and another 500 from Bulk Ammo, who sells "Garand Loaded" 30-06.

Should last me a while.....

Rev. Paul,
Happy Birthday!!!

Nice purchase for your Birthday!!!

drjim, the CMP armorer included a note with my rifle which said that standard ammo is fine (for mine, at least) but only up to 165 gr projectiles. Heavier rounds than that could cause damage. I'm taking his word for it!

Kelly - thank you very much.

Thank you, CottonLady.

Thanks, Preppy; I'm happy with it. :)

Thank you too, Sandy.

Thanks, sir!

Cool. I bought a bunch of 150gr before I read the "warnings" about importance of correct ammo, so that's another 100 rounds I can add to my stockpile.

Glad I could help, drjim. :)

Happy Birthday!

The Garand will handle a lot of commercial .30-06, just nothing heavier than 150gr. bullets unless you but one of the aftermarket adjustable gas ports for it.

Enjoy the shooting and the AAR with pics is anticipated.
