Funny River Fire Isn't Funny

Updates from KTUU Channel 2's website:
State fire officials report that five structures -- four recreational cabins, one of which was privately owned, plus an outbuilding -- have burned in the Funny River fire as of Tuesday afternoon. None of the four cabins were being used as primary residences, and all of them were only accessible by four-wheeler or boat.

An evacuation advisory has been canceled for residents living in the Feuding Lane and Kenai Keys Road area.

While officials believe a wildfire near the villages of Tyonek and Beluga is showing signs of containment, they believe the Funny River Fire on the Kenai Peninsula has spread across a larger area. Hundreds of firefighters from across Alaska, around the Lower 48 and Canada try to get the fires under control.
Alaska Interagency Incident Management officials report less than one inch of rain to fall on the Funny River, Kenai area. It wasn’t much, but it has been enough for crews to conduct some mop-up efforts as well as provide area residents the opportunity to take further preventative measures.

We have a three-stage HEPA filter on the air-handler in my building, and sonuvagun if there wasn't ash on everything in my office this morning. No wonder 80 percent of the people in Anchorage have runny noses & congestion.

Hope you get a lot of rain, pronto.

It's long overdue, and would be most welcome.

And you're gonna have a lot of folks out sick...

That sounds really ick. So is it mostly pine type forest or something going up?

Rev. Paul said...

NFO, that's already happening.

Preppy, it's blue spruce & northern birch, for the most part.

You have my sympathy, empathy, and best wishes. I lived in Colorado Springs when Mt. St. Helens blew her top. Yellow dust got into everything. It was awful.

And I was in the Denver area a couple years ago when those fires were raging. Ash and smoke everywhere.

No fun, not to mention dangerous. I doubt the stuff is getting through the HEPA filter. It is getting through everything else.

Thanks, Knucklehead. Unfortunately, small pieces of ash are still getting in.

You can't stop 'em, Rev. I am also a veteran of cane field burnoffs. Ash and dust will go where they please and cannot be escaped.

I wishing for some rain for you.

Ash.
And I've been complaining about the pollen drifting in the window.

Sending you wishes for a rainy day or two.

Thank you, Cathy - we'll take all of that we can get.
