A huge wildfire burning on the Kenai Peninsula has grown to more than 123,000 acres Sunday morning, with 20 percent of the fire contained, officials said.

The Alaska Interagency Incident Management Team said the Funny River fire was stoked by strong southwesterly winds for much of Saturday. By 11:30 p.m., when the winds died down, the fire was 123,649 acres.* * * * *
My wife barbequed burgers and a pork loin while I assembled a chest of drawers for the guest room. Lunch was a bit delayed, but well worth it. It was nice to smell smoke that isn't from the forest fire.
It's a quiet day otherwise, here in south Anchorage. I'm okay with that.

Evacuations for Funny River Residents per KSRM Facebook
Still spreading the word and trying to keep up, Rev Paul.
Best
Sorry to hear that.
Per incident management it is precautionary crews are going to try a back burn.
Apparently the key word in all of this is that the fires (yours and ours) will continue to grow. Such a shame.
midnight rider, I continue to pray that your family here will be safe.
NFO, it's a mess. Thanks.
JMD, that's how it appears, at least for now.
Y'all stay safe up there!
Almost sounds like the Sandy Eggo area but, being Alaska, a lot bigger!
I have now seen blurbs, long and short (some even kinda sorta correct) on CNN Fox CBS and NBC today. TeeVee and print!
Somewhere somebody noticed something.
It is crazy that the only place I am reading about this is right here on your blog. I have Ralph, who watches a lot of TV, keeping an eye out for stories on it, and so far, nada.
That's it exactly, Sarge. It took them a week to notice, though.
midnight rider, I'm guessing your family here has already been forced to leave their home; hope the fire misses them.
threecollie, I'm seeing local reports that the cable news outlets are starting to mention it, but I haven't watched any TV this weekend.
Nope, they are on the west side of the Sterling (just barely) and so have been able to stay in place. At least for now. Winds seem to be blowing the fire away from them today and to the northeast.
But thank you for thinking of them.
I'm glad to hear it, midnight rider. It's "snowing" ash in Anchorage today.
