There was an 8.0 earthquake in the Bering Sea this afternoon. It affected the central Aleutian Islands and the Alaska Peninsula; the epicenter was nearly 1,500 miles west of here.
I've already received several e-mails asking if we're okay. I'm grateful for your concern, but we're fine. It was kinda funny that the e-mails started arriving before I'd even heard about the 'quake.
Thank you so much.

Heh... At least we're thinking of ya... :-) And damn glad I'm not on Adak right now...
I hear you, NFO. Those folks are prob'ly up on Bering Hill right now, waiting for the tsunami to hit.
Shake rattle and roll!
At the very least, ma'am. :)
Heard about it and came to see if you had further news. Figured it was too far from you to have even a mild impact :)
Scary stuff though. Wow.
It was the strongest 'quake to hit North America in the last 50 years, so the talking heads say. We didn't know anything about it until the news reports began.
Yeah, we thought of you right away when we heard too. Glad you are all well.
You'll get all the fun stuff.
Thanks, threecollie. The islands have no more than a few hundreds of inhabitants, unless one of them has increased greatly in the last decade.
There's an Air Force refueling station on Shemya Island, next to the last of the Aleutians, some 2,000 miles west of Anchorage.
Good to hear!
I figured as much when the news reports said the Aleutians.
I know that much of your geography - that's it!
:-)

Thanks, Guffaw. Just think "the other side of the state". :)
