An Eagle River* man walked away from a bear attack by fending it off with a gun, according to state wildlife officials.
Around 1 p.m. Thursday the unidentified man
was walking along Eagle River Trail, a private road leading to his home,
when his dogs sprinted ahead out of sight.
Moments later the dogs came rushing back with a brown bear sow and a cub on their heels.
The
bear turned attention away from the canines to the man, chomping his
upper arm and hand, but he was able to draw his handgun and fired three
rounds into the bear.
* Eagle River is a dozen miles north of Anchorage.

Good thing he was carrying. I was gonna say armed but then I remember where the bear was chomping :)
Heh.
Ouch... Glad he was armed... carrying... whatever! HAD A GUN!!!
Rev. Paul,
Surgery.....
I hope they find the cub since mama bear is not longer alive.
NFO, at least he did that much right. If he'd had the dogs on leashes, the attack might not have happened at all.
Sandy, they will be looking for the cubs. That's S.O.P. here.
