Multiple Cases of Fail

KTUU.com brings us this story:

A mother and another family member were arrested for DUI and for endangering the welfare of a six year old, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers report stopping a REDDI vehicle at 10:43 p.m. Saturday near Mile 49 of the Parks Highway*. The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Mallory Dahl, was discovered to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Further investigation revealed Dahl was in possession of methamphetamines. Yvonne Insalaco, 20 of Anchorage, was also found to be in possession of illicit drugs, which consisted of more than an ounce of marijuana.

The only other passenger in the vehicle was Dahl’s six year old son. Troopers called another family member of the child to pick him up. Yvonne Dahl, 59, arrived to claim the child, and was arrested by troopers on scene for also driving under the influence.

Insalaco was released at the scene after being issued a summons to appear on charges of possession, while both Dahls were remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on charges of DUI, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, and Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances. Mallory Dahl is being held on $4,000 bail, while Yvonne Dahl is being held on a bail of $500.

The boy was handed over by troopers to the Office of Child Services. Both Dahls have a criminal history that includes other charges of DUI.

What lessons are we teaching our kids? Remember that they're always watching us, parents.

It's like they were going out of their way to find new ways to compound the errors. Sheesh.

Glad the child was put into a different environment. Let's hope their is someone in the family structure that is not doing these things.

JMD, that's always possible; I hope you're right.

Ya know though alcoholism isn't something new and honestly I notice it less these days than when I was a child. I remember a lot of drunk parents back in my day, at least one at about every friends house I ever visited. Alcohol wasn't allowed in my house until my parents got divorced so it wasn't an issue of my own but every friend I ever had growing up had at least one parent that was frequently drunk.

I think a lot of it is it works out to be the perfect reason for government to stick their nose in and keep it there. Some of the limits they set or extremely stupidly low, especially for full grown men but they have to be fair now don't they?

I myself have not touched a drop of alcohol since I left college almost 30 years ago. I have no use for the stuff but I think it has become a tool for local governments especially to pry where they shouldn't be prying.

Preppy, there's still plenty of opportunity for people to abuse various mind-altering substances, even without the Big Brother-esque interference. And somehow, people always find a way...

Probably be handing the kid a beer by the time he's eight because the court won't be smart enough to make his removal any more than temporary.

We all know how efficient the State is in these matters.
They'll probably give the give the child over to foster parent drunks who are better at hiding their addictions.

I know, I'm cynical. :-(

PH & gfa, I'm detecting a theme here ... and I'm as cynical about the State-as-nanny as you are.
