He Brought a Car to a Gunfight

Good Samaritan Injured While Between Gunman and Victims

A Good Samaritan attempting to intervene in a violent confrontation received minor injuries after a man opened fire in Mountain View.

Anchorage police officers responded to the scene shortly after 9:15 p.m. Friday after receiving a call about the incident. Investigation revealed a verbal confrontation between 32-year-old Mykel Olson and a female family member began at their residence on the 300 block of Bunn street, and eventually ended up outside.

Olson assaulted the female, and then assaulted a younger male family member who attempted to step in to help the female. Both victims crossed the street, according to APD spokesperson Dani Myren, when Olson pointed a handgun in their direction. A passing motorist attempted to intervene by placing his vehicle between Olson and the two victims.

Olson pointed the gun at the ground and shot several rounds, one of which ricocheted off the pavement and at the driver's face, grazing them. [sic]

It could have turned out much differently for the good Samaritan.

JMD & Old NFO - you're right; it could have been MUCH worse.

How many people would put themselves between a shooter and his victim? Wonder if that driver would ever do it again. Something to think about, isn't it? I'm glad he is O.K. though.

Chickenmom - I'm sure he wishes he hadn't, now. He was very, very lucky.
