It's a Quiet Week

So far, so good.

Very little of any Outside interest in the local news ... Dan Sullivan (R) has successfully unseated incumbent Mark Begich (D) for the U.S. Senate.

Bill Walker (formerly R, now I) has unseated incumbent Sean Parnell (R) as Alaska's governor. Parnell, if you don't know, was Sarah Palin's Lt. Governor, and assumed office when she resigned. He was elected to a full term thereafter. But Gov. Palin then endorsed Walker, saying that he would do a better job of developing Alaska's natural resources (and, not incidentally, standing up to the EPA, which many Alaskans rank right up there with Obamacare and the I.R.S.). That endorsement was, in part, responsible for Walker's 4,000 vote victory.

The Kodiak "lingerie bandit" has been arrested. He was a local 18-year-old ... and here we thought it might have been a visiting fisherman. And for the record, he is allegedly implicated in a number of burglaries, only some of which included rifling through ladies' undergarments.

In an announcement that surprises no one, the Anchorage School District has run through its annual "OMG we're broke we're broke we're gonna have to fire people we're all gonna die" routine ... and then promptly announced they have a new problem: how to spend a $22 Million surplus.

School district folks, we've been hearing this exact cycle year after year after year, and it's gotten old.

A T-Craft, otherwise known as a Taylorcraft BC-12, landed on the Soldotna Highway on Sunday due to engine failure. It didn't crash; it landed safely.

As for that arrest: Women's lingerie drawers may now rest easy :)

And if they need any help spending that 22 million . . my address is . . . . . . :-D

Cathy, so you're saying that the drawers are an open-and-shut case? :)

And yes, I suspect any number of us could find good uses to which to put that ahem surplus.

Ya it really is getting old how broke the poor school systems and teachers are. Almost as old as the race card.

Preppy - the Anchorage district pays teachers nearly $60K/year. It's insane how big their budget is.

I hate school districts for just this reason. They tell us every year that they are broke and we need more money... for the chiiildddreeeen. GAH!!! I always vote no. I am a curmudgeon.

As are we, Teresa. When we see the senior staff, bureaucrats, and superintendent taking pay cuts, maybe THEN we'll vote "yes".

Suspect that Taylorcraft exceeded the 45 mph posted speed limit. Also noticed some overhead lines. Some good flying there.

Re: the speed limit, I had the same thought. It was well done.
