I Think Roberta X is Right

She posited, today, that "blogging is essentially dead...".

It's hard to argue with that. My readers (for the most part) are those who agree with me (again, for the most part, but by no means always). And the blogs I read are by those with whom I mostly agree.

And frankly, after nearly seven years here, I haven't had much of an original topic about which to write in quite awhile.

I won't shut this thing down. Not yet. But darned if I can think of anything to say, these days.
And life's too short for me to bore you.

I'll be back.

Eventually.

People who agree with each other making contact have something in common with a church congregation.

Please keep writing. What you put up is interesting, at least to me.

WSF - re: your first sentence, I've made that comparison many times, in my mind. But I'm boring myself, lately, and have trouble believing it's any better for all of you.

But I keep coming back, don't I? I'll think of something to say, sooner or later.

Ya it's pretty dead to be honest. Of course I have made a real effort to weed out anyone who doesn't agree with me for the most part. It's not that I expect everyone to agree with me on every issue but there are a few that I will not budge on and will not tolerate. For instance Atheist, Liberals, Feminist, White guilt trippers, anyone who bashes Christians even sects that are not my own etc.

The ones who really bother me are the wishy washy ones. They will comment on one blog about how great say Christmas is and then agree with a pagan about how it sucks on another blog.

I cannot let stuff like that go and will usually piss em off eventually.

I still get about 4K hits a day. I figure 3K of that is spam though and although the regular commenters change every year or so the actual hits from readers stays pretty steady.

Preppy, I get between 400 to 600 hits/day, depending on how often I've posted. But yeah, I can't escape the feeling I'm repeating myself, and that's not a good place to be ... for me.

I had to come back to this though. Actually I went to do dishes and check on the stew I am making so had some time to think about it.

Blogging is not dead really. The readers are still there but keeping up content for a blog is really hard unless you can make yourself post updates on your life or stretch into political opinion. Most people don't want to do that because they are afraid they will piss someone off.

Sure Facebook and twitter etc. have stolen lots of people from reading blogs but the important ones who read for content are still around. There is a reason for it because those other medias protect the hypocrites from the truth.

I am not posting like I once did but have started posting some things to another blog that I once had and have enjoyed that even though nobody is really looking at it yet. I plan on having a lower profile now that we are getting closer to the collapse.

I can't argue with any point you've made here, Preppy. I'm just dry, right now.

Sunnybrook Farm, exactly why I don't rant & rave about politics like I used to. TPTB have managed to dampen free speech to that extent; and Alaska is WAY too small for me to write something negative about this politician or that. Everybody here knows everybody's cousin, ya see. If I say something negative about either U.S. Senator, for example, I get hits from the Senate's Master-at-Arms within minutes. And the Interior Dept reads (or at least, used to read) this blog daily.

I still have to say that without this medium I would have never met some great people IRL. It does serve a purpose even if you are "preaching to the quire" as it were.

Kelly, you & WSF have given me something to think about. :)

Pictures are great material to toss around. I enjoy yours for sure.

Rev. Paul said...

Max - I'll keep that in mind, too. Thanks.

You're a man of faith, you can communicate, you have a sense of humor, and you live in a place I dearly love, but can't find good ways to spend more time in. Shall I go on?

Please don't stop. Knowing guys like yourself are out there is an immense comfort in a world that is losing its way.

(I should talk, I stopped blogging 3 years ago due to too narrow a subject focus, and I was never sure how to fix it).

Everyone is on pins and needles these days. Something is going to happen but we don't know what it is going to be. Your blog is comforting, funny and an escape from the insanity around us. Please don't stop writing. Can't think of anything? Post a picture of the most beautiful place on God's earth - and you are right in the middle of it!
Voice you opinions if you want to. If you get any flack we'll flood 'em with e-mails. Twice. Thank you for being you. You are a good man, Rev. Paul.

You must do it for yourself, if you do it at all!
I, for one, am one who likes seeing your musings, whether or not I agree with them.
I'll be waiting...

Sir - I thank you for that; I will continue.

Rev. Paul . . . I heartily 'second' your fans above me in the comment section. I think the secret is not to feel pressured to post every day. We'll all continue to drop by for a chuckle or a sigh at your words of wisdom - no matter the wait.

Rev. Paul said...

Thank you, Cathy. That helps.

I run a pretty pedestrian blog. I am not gifted with the written word, my photography sucks, but even after all of that people still come by to see what drivel I have to say.

I must say that some great friends I have now I did not have before I started blogging. I am thankful for that at least.

I do not feel pressured to see the hit counter or drive traffic to my blog and if I post something it comes when I want it to. Not because I feel I must.

Relax my friend. We will be here on your schedule.

I understand your point, Kelly, and will keep it in mind. :)

Oh, I'm 'out there'!

I'm in a rut, myself. Don't have much to say these days, and none of it profound. I find that I use the blog as a backup to Facebook, which seems to be the place for the sort of disposable commentary I am good at. Hope you'll keep posting when the notion strikes.

Rev. Paul said...

Bob, I'll do that. Thanks.

Rev. Paul,

I don't think any of us are posting like we used to. Life has been keeping us all pretty busy.
Take care of yourself and family, we all will be around.
