Scene in the Parking Lot

As I was leaving work this afternoon, I met Big Mama:
She turned her tail toward me just as I got the phone out ... of course.

Standing still, waiting to see what I was going to do.

Starting to realize I wasn't approaching ...

and turning her attention back to the nummy branches ...

"Duh ... yep, this is what I was eating a minute ago."

"Nom, nom, nom!"

And as I made a left turn, I realized there was another moose - every bit as big - just on the other side of the silver Ford you see in the first photo.

Since there's so little snow on the mountainside, the moose aren't coming into town for munchies like they would in a normal winter. However, Big Mama (above) lives in the woods to the west of the parking lot, so we see her every few days.

I would so like to see her. Or a relative.

That's 1,200 lbs of yummy moose, right there. Plenty to go 'round!

How does moose compare with white-tailed deer? In the culinary department that is. I've had a lot of the latter, for supper last night in fact, but never tasted the former.

threecollie, moose are members of the deer family, and their meat is quite similar to venison in flavor.

Savages.

Go pet them instead :)

Sure, Max, right after you. :)

From our temporary perch in Florida that picture . . . well . . it's just so other-worldy .

Cathy, it's the same world ... just a different latitude. :)
