About That Trip To Homer

Okay, so I thought of something to write about, after all:

One of the places we visited for dinner, last weekend, was highly placed on tripadvisor.com's list of restaurants.

We made a reservation and arrived on time. We were seated promptly, and just as promptly, a waitress (or server, if you prefer) appeared at our table to take drink orders. But when she discovered that all we wanted was iced tea and a good dinner - and not drinks and appetizers - her enthusiasm faded like the sun passing behind clouds.

She came to the table only once more, to bring the dinners we ordered. After that, we saw her waiting on others, but not us. A different server asked if we wanted dessert (we didn't), and brought the check.

I'm not going to mention the establishment's name, for reasons you can probably surmise, but it wonders me* why a person whose income is at least partially based on tips would decide some customers are less important than others.

My semi-educated guess is that she gets a higher commission on drinks than food, but still ...

Oh, well. We won't be seeing that place again, so it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

* Just something that my mom says to be humorous, from time to time.

Maybe why many waitresses hate to get the after church crowd.
They, except for me and probably you, don't tip.
Took a cruise once on a non-smoking boat.
Turned out to be the last non-smoking cruise for that boat.
They made it smoking because no one drank or gambled either.
Lost money.

You might could forward this post to the management of the establishment. Name the wait person, express your lack of service. Sometimes I drink, sometimes I don't, my tip is based on service, not how much I spend on booze.

Yep, I'd mention it too...

Would definitely take the time to write them a short note about your experience there. Sometimes management take it for granted their employees are doing a good job if there are no complaints.

I remember my Father ranting about the dearth of customer service, back in the 60's! And I myself have taken more note of such goings-on as I've gotten older.
HMMM...
Could it be that age brings wisdom, or perhaps more acute powers of observation?
Or just makes me more of a fuddy-duddy!?
Mathematically (I suppose) if customer service began as something wonderful, but has been degrading ever since, it's amazing we get any service at all!
I commend you for not naming the emporium in question. And, if that's her attitude, I suspect her career in food service is waining.
Glad you had a generally good trip!

Rev. Paul,

It shouldn't matter whether you ordered drinks or not. You were a customer, every customer should be treated well and taken care of.
