Identified, at Last

There's a shiny object in the sky, periodically visible through breaks in the clouds. It's apparently at high altitude, and has thrown the neighborhood into a minor panic.

After an exhaustive search, consultation with the weather gnomes at AccuHunch, and an image comparison using Bing, Google, DuckDuckGo, and several other arcane and esoteric sources, we have determined that it a "sun".

Did you know that the Earth orbits a star?

Wow - who knew!?

I wonder if that thing is what's heating up the earth?

I guess it depends on how far away it is, Ed. But anecdotal evidence suggests that "sunny" days are hotter than cloudy ones.

All too familiar with said object.
107 today, with 35% humidity, currently.
Plans are to stay inside, save taking out the trash.

Guffaw, it's 51° this morning, with overcast & drippy skies. I'm sorry to hear of the temps where you are, but it does come with the territory, I suppose.
