It's That Time of Year

Another day of rain, drizzle, and sprinkles, with temps in the low 50s ... it's August in southcentral Alaska, so that's what we typically get.

We've finally reached the point where all the "Gee, we could change that..." jobs are finished. The morning's errands have been run, and we've decided to have another casual afternoon.

We noticed that .22 ammo is starting to trickle back onto local shelves, at reasonable prices. Federal, Remington, Armscor, and a couple of other brands have been spotted in the past week. Nice to see again.

We're also noticing that some leaves are starting to fall, even with all the rain we've gotten in the last couple of weeks. It's that time of year, too.

Y'all take care, and thanks for stopping by.

So fall comes early up there. Makes sense.

I'm starting to see little reminders of autumn's approach here in Little Rhody, even though the temps were in the high 80s today.

Little things...

Well, we're a considerably farther bit north than even R.I., Sarge. We get what passes for Fall about six weeks earlier than the Midwest. But yes, the leaves are thinning, and have already taken on a lighter-green appearance. It's the way of things, north of the 61st parallel. But the grass is still growing, and there's no snow on the mountains ... yet.

Chompin' at the bit here waiting for Autumn. Still so humid. Yuck.

Understood, ma'am. We don't miss the "HHH" weather (hot, hazy, & humid) whatsoever. Alaska's climate suits us just fine. :)

Rev.Paul,

Noticing all kinds of plants dying off. Wondering if summer is going to be as short as spring was here in OK.

It's hard to say, Sandy. We've had an early fall for the last couple of years, but almost no snow & a mild winter. We're overdue a really cold, Alaskan-style snowfest.

I don't wish the snow any time soon - but a reduction in the temps and the above average humidity would be nice. It's been a WET summer - part of the humidity issue.

For what it's worth, Brigid, the Old Farmer's Almanac just released its long-range winter forecast. Looks like you're going to have a cold, snowy winter. Us? Not so much: another warmish, low-snow cool season.
