Alaska's first Krispy Kreme opened in Anchorage, at 0500 hours today.
A clerk in the surgery supply room was good enough to stand in line and bring a box here. Still warm, too: the place is only a few blocks from work.
Older Daughter and I frequented the one in Branson, Missouri last April, while on vacation, but we never thought we'd see fresh ones here. A local supermarket chain has been flying them in from Seattle since forever, but they're always 12 hours old before they hit the shelves. And they always sell out.
But hot, fresh, now? There's nothing finer!

I don't think any are still operating in MN. We had one at Mall Of America, but sadly it closed down. Had two by us in Orlando, but never had them much. Now our market here, has a bakery and they have fresh cake doughts daily. Oh my......
There are local bakeries in & around the Anchorage area, and a couple of places make very good pastries. But there's something special about the "hot fresh now" at Krispy Kreme. :)
Yeah, they're pretty tasty!
Damning with faint praise, eh Jim? (I'm kidding.) Yes, they certainly are.
I don't think I've had a hot, fresh one, the ones in the box are so sweet I can't eat them.
The glazed doughnuts are very sweet, and I can only eat one or two myself, and they have to be balanced with coffee. Some of the other varieties aren't quite as sweet, but they're truly treats for us - we've been going a number of years in-between visits, which could only be made by airliner. At least we have, until now.
Haha. Hubby loved them, too. Me, not so much. I never liked the greasy taste or to have the oil run down my chin. Ick, haha.
But here in Louisiana, they have Shipley Donuts. Now these are some good donuts. I like Dunkin Donuts, but mostly their Bavarian Creme with powdered sugar. Can't really find them here.
But between Shipley and Krispy Kreme? I'll take Shipley. They are a Southern donut, found in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. When we were driving back and forth between NC and here, I would eat donuts while we were here, and then never have them again when in NC, though he often would stop if the HOT sign was lit up.
Enjoy your donuts! ^__^
Be safe and God bless.
Linda, perhaps there's something different about the way the donuts are made down there, but I've never had a greasy donut from Krispy Kreme. Oh well.
I haven't had a Krispy Kreme in a couple years but there's just something about them when they're hot and fresh. They almost melt in your mouth.
That's exactly right: After they've gotten stale, they're just okay, but when they're fresh, they're better than any other donut we've ever had.
They've been up and down here in the Valley of the Sun.
When they first arrived, they expanded too quickly, and had to shut down and regroup.
Sadly, I LOVES me a good doughnut, be it local (AZ Donut Co.), Dunkin' or Krispy Kreme.
They are like cotton candy in donut form!
Being diabetic, I should avoid them. But, I sometimes partake.
A retired cop friend called the FAT PILLS! He gave them up and lost something like 125 pounds!
YUMMM!
gfa
They ARE that good. :) But your friend who lost 125 lbs must have had more than a few, over the years. Far more than I'll allow myself to consume, anyway.
We briefly had one here. Then they closed. I was so sad.....
And I agree. Never had a greasy one. If they're dripping grease someone did something wrong!
That would be sad. But yes, somebody messed up to produce a greasy batch.
I have moved form having one 20 minutes away to one 3 hours away... this is good for my thighs, and sad for my tongue.
Enjoy the heck out of hot-fresh-now!
Wing, as you know, the nearest one was in Seattle prior to this past Tuesday. That was just too danged far away, and made the doughnuts rather spendy.
Local tongues are now happier than they've been in quite awhile. :)
