URGENT CALL TO REPENTANCE: All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord. And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee. For the Kingdom is the Lord’s and He rules among the nations. (Psalm 22:27-28)
'Reminds me of a road trip to Tok Junction I had to do while in the Coast Guard. It was -39* at 3:00 PM when I got there, and they were having dogsled races down the street. Next morning, I went to start the government vehicle I had picked up in Anchorage. I turned the key, and the engine just went"er..." The thing had a block heater, but no extension cord to plug it into the outlet in front of the room. Thanks, GSA...
Failing an outlet for the block heater, one must take the battery inside, overnight. It's a pain. And yeah, the main drag in Tok would make a dandy sled dog track. Nice and flat ... and there's always Fast Eddie's if you need warm food & drink.
It ain't funny. I just came in from the outhouse! (-39 deg.) And I had to park myself next to the heater, for 10 minutes. This getting old ain't for sissy's.
Griz, my hat's off to you - yesterday morning's -27 reading was bad enough, and our plumbing is indoors. And no, it's not quite as easy as it used to be.
Rob, it would be grim. Back in the early '80s, we lived in a mobile home in Iowa City (college years). January '81, it was -13 every day for a month. Our main waste line froze solid & we had to shower at the neighbor's house. And I had to spend a day on my back, under the trailer, insulating pipes & wrapping heat cord around things. Still took 4 days to thaw the sewer line. Of course, that was after I dug a trough through the 39" snowfall to get to the crawlspace. This weather is much colder than that was.
Griz, I shiver in sympathy. Coldest outhouse run I had was -35. I think. I didn't linger to squint too hard at the temperature in the moonlight. That'd be the weekend I frostnipped my hands because my buddy tossed me gloves good to fifteen below. (Never made that mistake again!)
May you never get trapped in the outhouse by a moose...
Wing, a friend of mine has a cabin near the Matanuska Glacier. Her son, an electrician, installed lights & a radiant heating panel in the outhouse for her. She turns the panel on from inside the cabin about 10 to 15 minutes before going out there, in winter. No more "ring of shame" from frostbitten cheeks!

The location of the sign says a lot. If I had to suffer one I would surely need the other and I don't even drink. lol
Let's just say you could top off your antifreeze at either location. :)
I think that temperature would postpone my trips to the outhouse! :-)
Rev.Paul,
Down right cold!!! Now that's a temperature I don't wish on anyone.
Mike, if there's no heater in your outhouse, you're not doing it right. :)
Sandy, exactly. Not fun.

ALASKANS FOR GLOBAL WARMING!!
I don't think I could live in that temp. not in a mobile home.

Rev,
Ooooooooooooooh. Radiant Heating in an outhouse? Luxury!
There's a son who loves his mama.
Yes, indeed - and trust me, she loves him. It's been two years, and she's still talking about it.
