9:30 A.M. UPDATE:
Race leaders are back on the trail, with Aliy Zirkle first to leave Manley Hot Springs.
Zirkle, 47, departed the chilly Interior checkpoint at 8:47 a.m. with all 16 dogs. She spent just 17 minutes at the checkpoint.
 
Joar Leifseth Ulsom soon followed, at 9:09 a.m.

Thank you, Suz. I'm a fan of hers. She has finished in 2nd or 3rd place several times in a row - and it's high time we had another woman win the race! She'd be the third (Libby Riddles & Susan Butcher were the others.)

Yes, it does. The old Iditarod saying used to be, "Alaska: where men are men, and women win the Iditarod." Sadly, none has done that since Susan Butcher.
