God's Word for Wednesday, 12/12/18

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Galatians 4:4-5 KJV

But when the time arrived that was set by God the Father, God sent his Son, born among us of a woman, born under the conditions of the law so that he might redeem those of us who have been kidnapped by the law. Thus we have been set free to experience our rightful heritage. You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!” Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.
Galatians 4:4-5 MSG

I think I am beginning to sound like an old grump, but I wish the Church would remember more that we were all under the law and needed to be redeemed, instead of just "stumbling in" to righteousness.

Amen, Linda.

TB, I blame the pastors and teachers, who tend to be "seeker-sensitive". That means they water down the Word to avoid offending anyone, in the mistaken belief that the Truth might drive some away.

The Bible is clear: we are to present the unvarnished Truth, and the Holy Spirit does the work in the listeners' hearts. That part isn't our responsibility, and we (the Church) need to get past the touchy-feely stuff & get back to telling it the way God dictates it.

Completely agree, Reverend. It strikes me as well that in some cases they do not just water down the Word (specifically about sin and salvation), they just talk around it in generalities about how you need to be "saved", but they never really say saved from what.

Exactly so, TB. Failing to mention that all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), and that Jesus, and Jesus alone, can save us from our own sins. That is the only way we can enter the presence of God. I know you know all that, but it's a sore point with me: modern pastors to afraid of hurting someone's feelings to tell them the truth.
