A Crowded Field, or, Too Much is Never Enough

A record field of 15 candidates has signed up to run for mayor of Anchorage this spring. Read about it here.

  1. At least you get a choice. We normally have to decide between extreme left wing Democrat and socialist Democrat. Republicans almost never run for anything here. We do have one finally running this year for Mayor, but I didn't know he was a Republican until I was talking to him. Apparently he isn't advertising it because he would automatically get written off.

  2. I don't know, yet, whether any of the 15 is someone I'd trust with the keys to the treasury. We'll see over the next two months.

I've also noticed, like you, that local candidates rarely declare their political affiliation. However, the State publishes an election guide which clarifies that and much else. It allows for side-by-side comparisons of the candidates & has proven quite useful.

  3. Election guides are a handy resource. I didn't see any for our Primary this year though. If I wasn't so politically active locally I would not have heard of some of the candidates. No wonder turn out is so low for the Spring Elections.
