Another Day, More Ice

Yesterday's ice storm was a thing of beauty, and affected all of south-central Alaska, all the way up to Fairbanks. Government offices & schools were closed; UAA cancelled classes later in the day, and even the newly-combined Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson told 'non-essential' personnel to stay home.

Today promises more of the same, although most of the main roads have been treated & the conditions are somewhat improved this morning. Schools are still closed today, although governmental types must report by 10 a.m.

I still don't understand why we're paying taxes for 'non-essential' personnel of any type, but that's a rant for another day.

To complicate matters, as we enter the darkest portion of the Alaskan winter, the photocell(s) which turn our parking lot lights on & off have failed, necessitating manual operation until repairs can be made. Yay.

Our insurance agent mentioned last night that one fellow called her, all upset because his mom had slipped on an icy patch and fell on his new cell phone. She said he seemed quite upset ... about the phone.

People. Whatcha gonna do?

My friend Polykahr has a great post up today ... do yourself a favor & check it out. It's worth the 2 or 3 minutes it will take you to read it.
