Warm Snuggies & Cold Hard Facts

That's what most of us will be wearing this evening. It's 11° F. with a wind chill near 0° at the moment. The temp has slowly fallen all day.

There's not much snow in the forecast before Friday, although that "forecast" means little where AccuHunch is concerned.

If it's warmer where you are, and you're happy with that, then God bless you. :)  We like it chilly, this time of year, and we're definitely getting our wish.

* * * * *

The new Anchorage administration is doing what all new administrations do: point out some financial error, misappropriation, or whatever, and cry, "J'accuse!"

They allege that the previous folks left some unpaid bills in the amount of some $100,000. These appear to be related to the 2015 celebration of Anchorage's Centennial, i.e., some hand-shake deals that didn't get processed, and one check which was apparently deposited in a private account.

So be it.

If wrong was committed, then do something about it. Don't just gripe at the local press.

I seem to recall that when the previous administration took office, there were allegations that the folks prior to them had cooked the books (I'm sure that's not the phrase that was used; I use it for verbal shorthand ... which is now moot since I've written so much explanation, here). The amount they talked about at the time was in the neighborhood of $2 million.

Again, this is off the top of my head, as I'm feeling lazy and haven't bothered to look up the old articles.

But that previous Mayor didn't get charged with anything. In fact, the reason he left office was because he'd just been elected U.S. Senator. He's the guy who unseated Ted Stevens, who was going through a trial for financial corruption of his own.

The fact that Sen. Stevens' conviction was later thrown out due to prosecutorial misconduct is beside the point.

The point is ... do something about it, or stop belly-achin'. We've heard it before.
