Tuesday Tidbits

Good morning! It's 6 degrees this morning, which is 12 degrees warmer than yesterday, and only 10 degrees below normal. In yet more evidence of global cooling, the annual snowmachine & mushing race from Nenana to Nome was halted due to deep snow. The Gore effect, again! For more on this topic, check out my friend's post, here. UPDATE: AccuHunch just reported that Fairbanks has had the snowiest winter, so far, since 1996. Global warming? Yeah, right.

Our weather forecast has a bit of nearly everything in it, this week. Yesterday it was about 20 degrees below normal, and sunny. Today won't be any warmer, but AccuHunch says it will cloud up later, and they're now calling for snow later this week. ANOTHER UPDATE: it has been snowing lightly all day - this after a morning forecast for sunny skies.

Of course, it will also warm up to slightly above normal (if AccuHunch is to be believed - ha!), and then turn cold & sunny again by the weekend.

This Saturday will see the ceremonial start of the 2009 Iditarod Race, in downtown Anchorage. Snow right before the race is a good thing.

A state senator from Juneau has been tapped to be the Alaska advisor in the U.S. Dept. of the Interior. Clearly there's been a mistake: I hadn't noticed the current administration selecting candidates who actually know anything about their new jobs ...

My thought for the day: the inherent problem with socialism is that it's a gospel of envy. It seeks to "level the playing field" by taking away from those who have achieved, and giving to those who have not. After 50+ years of welfare, there are entire generations of those who have no incentive whatsoever to do anything with their lives.

This redistribution of wealth is demeaning to those who have not achieved, giving them nothing to which they can aspire. And it insults the rest of us, by penalizing us for having worked hard to reach a measure of success.

That's about it for this morning. Y'all have a great day!
