This Could Be Bad

I said it before, and I'll say it again: I wish Gov. Palin would reject the idea of accepting any of the bailout money. I know state budgets are stretched. I know some of the states are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. But nothing comes from the Federal government without strings attached.

One of the worst things that will happen, if or when the economic house of cards comes crashing down, is that the GOP governors who accepted money will be tainted by accusations (lobbed by the main-stream media, no doubt) of greed, duplicity, and "Aren't the Republicans the ones who opposed this hand-out? Didn't they agree it wouldn't work? Why then did you accept the money? Aren't you part of the problem you said needed to be fixed? How can you blame the Democrats if you participated in it?"

Alaska is reportedly in better fiscal shape than many of the other states. Maybe - just maybe - we could do without the hand-out.

And one more thing: IF Governor Palin has designs on the national election in four years, this could really come back to bite her in a BIG way.

Just my opinion, folks.

I see things a bit differently. She has to go to bat for her team (Alaska) regardless of what the opposition is preparing to throw out there. The best she can and should be doing is saying something along the way of, "IF you're going to pass this piece of crap, then you need to think about conditions up in Alaska. We are forced to work on a different time schedule than folks in Florida or Texas."

She doen't have to vote for or against this thing. That's not her job. If the Dems are going to pass this monsterm, she needs to have some input upon the conditions to be imposed. She should, however, express her dislike for the passage of the damn thing.

We agree on this. I mentioned last month that she is taking the position of "as long as it's inevitable, then let's put some of the money to good use."

It seems like great advice to me. While it will help her nationally, I wonder how bad it would effect her within the state.

If the hand-out doesn't bankrupt the country, then the liberals who bash her for sport will be compelled to point out how BHO has helped. If it DOES bankrupt us, then they'll blame her for taking part in it.

It will help the President, or hurt the Governors and their states.

Too true. I still hope she does the right thing though. I know there is no hope for our tax and spend governor though.
