The difference? In September, the leaves were still green, and many many more trees blew down. Yesterday, over half the leaves had already fallen, and the wind took off 98% of the remainder. Bare branches don't give as much purchase to the winds, and so we fared much better.

There's some good news from the North Slope: one of the local oil companies has found some 950 million barrels of shale oil, according to their preliminary findings. It's easily recovered by fracking, they say, and that's a very good thing for all of us.

Yes, that is so true here too. The Halloween Nor'easter that hit a couple years ago, got us when the leaves were on the trees... no power for 3 days (and we were lucky - many had no power for a couple of weeks). Tall trees + Leaves + windstorm + snow... very very bad. Glad you all had a fairly low key storm this year.
With all the trees we have here, the two things I fear most are the wind and fire. Glad you are O.K.!
