Good morning, folks!
The average temperature across Anchorage this morning (discounting the reading from the airport, which is near the water) is -11. We have -14 at our home, and some places on the east side, nearer the mountains, are already at -25.
The local meteorologists are saying it could get below -30 tonight. They are also guessing it could be the longest cold snap in decades, as temps like this are forecast for the remainder of the week, and then some.
It's all part & parcel of life in Alaska, and not for the faint of heart. I'll break out the down parka this morning, and will have to spend a few more minutes warming up my truck. It's a cold-blooded beastie, and the frost will be hard to scrape at these temps.
In the Mat-Su Valley, north/northwest of here, their temps are not quite as cold, but they will have 60 mph winds today, providing horrendous wind chills.
I'm sure there will be more posts about the cold air, so y'all stay tuned, hear?
