-20 in Anchorage

I stepped out on the roof of my building in mid-town, today, and took some pictures of the mountains. The smoke & steam rising from the buildings is really captivating, in the extreme cold.

The first set was at 10:00 a.m., when the sun was just coming up. It was 20 below, so I didn't get too far from the door.

The second time was just after noon, when it had warmed to -15.
I hope you enjoy.

Absolutely beautiful (the scenery, not the temp).

It's an extremely photogenic place to live - I thank God every time I look at those mountains. And what's a little frostbite among friends??

Great pictures! I really like the next to the last one in the sequence. The mountains look ethereal in that particular shot. And maybe a bit ephemeral as well. The shades of gray and blue with the dark green...beautiful. This would make an excellent print or even a jigsaw puzzle.

Thanks, Joated. I never quite know how the colors will turn on, given the predominance of white & grayish-white, and especially with a brighter sky as a backdrop. That picture surprised me with the qualities you mention. I'm glad you like it.
