It's 5:18 p.m., and the temp at my place has already dropped to 14 below. It got up to only -6 ... briefly ... today, and promptly fell back into negative double-digits.
The elevators at my building in mid-town both began to malfunction today. One cured itself after a few minutes, but the other just stopped responding to its controls at 4 p.m. We suspect that the air in the shafts has finally gotten cold enough to interfere with the hydraulics.
Other than that, it was a fairly quiet day today. I'm liking this new job a lot, and I hope to remain at it as long as they'll have me. After the previous four years, working for the Mr. Chaos, it's a VERY nice change of pace!
The weather quacks at Accu-Hunch insist that we'll begin to warm up - a little - after tomorrow (which sounds like a re-run of today). 10 above on Saturday sounds positively balmy!
One other item: I had written about my mom, who suffered a stroke on her birthday in December. She was allowed to go home on Christmas Eve, and is doing a lot better. Her speech is cleared, and she's regaining the use of her hand. Thank you for all your prayers and/or positive thoughts.

So, if it gets to 10 above you're stripping down to the T-shirt?
;-)
We managed a couple of sunny days in a row that were just grand even though the temperature never got much about 35 degrees. (that's positive 35.) So, of course, today we have some snow and freezing rain here at the Aerie and pure snow up at the Bolt Hole. We'll finis this storm with just over an inch of snow but, perhaps, a quarter inch of ice here in north central PA. Up in the Adirondacks it'll be 7-10 inches of snow.
BTW Good to hear your Mom is feeling better and making strides toward a full recovery.
Thank you.
I will quite probably be comfortable in a long sleeve shirt & vest at 10 above, because it has so cold for so long.
The local news interviewed a Fairbanks woman who was in a light coat yesterday. She said, "I don't wear gloves when it gets this warm." (It was -15 here, but has been anywhere from -45 to -60 in Fairbanks.) Everything's relative.
