Thanks to all who left comments or e-mailed; I'm feeling better now, and appreciate your good wishes.
A bit of sad news: my sister's ex passed away this afternoon. She & their daughter Abbie, 8 years old, were at the hospital as he was in recovery following surgery. The divorce was several years ago, and he & I were never really close; I only met with him a few times. Abbie hadn't seen him very often lately, either, but is understably taking it hard.
My dad has recovered from his recent fall, with resultant skull & facial fractures, and is back to helping Mom with the housework & cooking duties. He'll be 80 next month. Mom (perpetually 29, don'tcha know) is mostly recovered from her stroke, too, except for lingering sciatic pain. Nasty stuff.
Weather: we were supposed to get 6" to 10" of snow, or so AccuHunch alleged. Mais non! we received 1/4" of wet slush, and it has been misting ever since, with temps in the mid-30s.
One of these days, AccuHunch will get lucky & forecast correctly ... and the entire population of Anchorage will fall over in a dead faint.
I personally hope the weather turns colder & produces some significant snowfall soon. The sled dog races begin on the 27th, and they can't run on asphalt.
Volcano: Mt. Redoubt still shakes & quivers, but hasn't done much of anything else. It could still erupt, but I'm starting to doubt it. Not this time.
Personal: My lovely wife has prepared cashew chicken and breadsticks for supper; there's a lovely aroma starting to drift in from the kitchen. I believe I'm hungry, too; amazing how coincidental that is!

Rev.Paul, Sorry to hear that your niece's father has died. It's got to be tough for a little girl.
Aging parents.Another subject.I hope your folks continue to recouperate.Coming back from a stroke takes lots of will power. Bless her heart! Oh I hope you get some snow soon. What sled dog races? Isn't the Iditarod the beginning of March? When I worked for Alaska Air that was a huge deal. Mt. Redoubt:I guess this is good, right? My hubby is a vet too. He's had quite a few problems caused from Agent Orange, not to mention PTSD. That's the pits, especially since he is one of the best guys on the face of the earth. Oh well,he rarely complains.Since I've been back down in Phx though he has gained a little weight which he blames on my cooking...he likes that! I'll have to try cashew chicken for him. Sounds good! It sounds like you must be feeling better---at least well enough to be hungry!Hope you are feeling better now. Blessings.
Cassie, thanks. Regarding the sled dogs, the annual Fur Rendezvous (not really about "fur" anymore) starts the last Friday in Feb. They have sprints (5, 11, and 25 mile races) for three days. The Iditarod starts the 1st Saturday in March, so there are four days of sled dogs. I love the atmosphere, and the dogs are SO excited! They want to run so badly, while waiting to start, that they literally propel themselves into the air, but are pulled back down by the traces.
Yes, it's good that the volcano hasn't erupted - no ash clouds to deal with. And your hubby's gaining weight from your cooking is a good thing - it means he thrives on your presence, too.
Thanks again.
