Cabin Fever

It's official: we're getting loopy from cabin fever, and want to get OUT. People are starting to get a mite grumpy.

I just heard on the radio that our spring will be "colder and snowier than normal."

But what does the Old Farmer's Almanac say?

It says "April will be much colder than normal and May will be slightly colder than normal, on average. Precipitation will be ... above normal in the south, with the heaviest snowfalls occurring in the first half of April..."

In other words, "colder and snowier than normal." Can you say re-run?

Meh.

Rachel - you're right. It's the single most spectacular place I've ever seen. But after seven months of winter, we wouldn't mind a change.

Deedee - we've been having clear, cold weather for the last week, with bright sunshine. There's not a cloud in the sky as I type this. Now though, it looks like we're going to have more snow next week - and if the Almanac is right, a lot more after that.

We enjoy it, and I have to 'fess up: we like winter, and love watching it snow, playing in the snow, and all that deep, fluffy white stuff!

DP - we weren't free of snow until the end of April, last year. Some years it has been mid-May. But yes, it's coming!

This reminds me of the prayer, "Lord, please give me patience, and give it to me right now!"

The problem, as I see it, is a few years ago they had a lack of snow for the Iditarod. That worried people...a lot. So they started to pray that there would e snow for the Last Great Race every year. Little did they know that their prayers would be answered by every god known to man ever and a few that were waiting in the wings eavesdropping. As a result you've had a few rough years of super-dooper snow.

BTW. I noticed it was -11 in Nome at around noon today (Friday). Don't complain too much. At least you can get in a car to go to work while those poor souls still on the trail are riding behind anywhere from 10 to 15 dogs on an open sled.
