We have ash falling now - it looks very smoky outside, and the snow has gone from white to yellow-brown in the last 10 minutes.

Fortunately, this is supposed to be a "light" dusting ... har de har har. The sky has turned a greyish beige, and there are black bits in the snow.
.
Yay. But ... it could be MUCH worse. We are 100 miles from the volcano. The towns right across the Cook Inlet from the volcano are having a worse experience.
.
I'll update the photos later. It's still smoky/hazy outside, and I'm sure there are a number of unhappy people being sent home from the airport.
.
I'm also watching a steady procession of people driving past my place, apparently to see the phenomenon. Dolts & poltroons? No, just ignorant of the possible horrible damage to their engines & other moving parts. Sigh.
.
UPDATE: The worst of it seems to be over, for now. We didn't get a lot of ash ... so far. Life's rich pageant, eh?
.
AccuHunch has extended the ash-fall alert until 10 p.m. Then we're supposed to get 50 to 85 mph winds, followed by more snow.
.
Well, fresh snow would be nice - it will cover all the brown snow that we have now!

Hope all is well. Just remember that if it's like the Mt. St. Helens ash, it's corrosive, and to get the gutters cleaned out as soon as you can.
I'll be keeping your family in my prayers.
We're okay, Brigid - and thank you. It's not any worse than the dust storms we used to get in Missouri, in terms of quantity, so far.
Yes, corrosive & abrasive. Once the stuff has stopped falling, I guess I'm headed to the car wash.
