The head of the State's Republican Party, along with Governor Palin, have issued a call for Senator Mark Begich to resign, and to hold a new election for the U.S. Senate seat occupied by Ted Stevens for the last 40 years.
They believe that, without the shadow of a felony trial hanging over the election, that Sen. Stevens would have been reelected handily.
Sen. Begich, of course, says "no" and claims that he won the election because people wanted change.
He won by a few thousand votes, and the conviction was handed down just about a week before the election. But that wouldn't have mattered, he insists.
