So to put a cap on the day, I stopped after work at the Sallie Ann Thrift Store (Salvation Army, for the uninitiated) and dropped off some donations.
I noticed on the way that the fan didn't seem to be pushing much air through the vents in the truck, but thought maybe I was imagining things.
As I turned in the driveway at the store, the radio (which was on) started turning itself off and back on again.
When I parked, the windows wouldn't go up or down, nor would the truck start again.
It appears the alternator died a few days ago, and thanks to our lovely modern automotive technology, there was no warning. I've been running on the battery for several days, it seems.
So ... a tow truck and a repair. But you know what? God's in His heaven, and I had a pretty good (if hectic) day.
It's all good!

Good attitude. :-) Makes a world of difference, doesn't it?
Yes, it does. I could get mad, but what would that solve? And where would I direct it? At the truck?
Naww, I figure 122,000 miles is a good long life for an electrical component (turned that mileage today, too).
Besides, it feels a lot better to stay positive.
Running on battery for a few days?! Jeesh, how did you manage to do that? When the alternator on my Astro died (years ago), I was lucky to get about 30 miles before the battery went too. Did it twice before I figured out it was the alternator and by then the battery was really and truely kaput.
Probably because my commute is only 6.4 miles. That would give me 2 1/2 trips before it was too dead to support the ignition system, at your 30-mile benchmark. That's about what happened.
Rev. well JEEZ! You were lucky. My Alternator went out on my truck while I was on the Glenn coming home one early morning last summer. No warning or indication other then a weird battery light. As soon as I drove in the driveway... BAM, dead as a doornail!
I spent 200 to replace the battery the alternator and the starter, which I replaced myself and got the core charge back. But what a Pain! At least God was nice enough to let me get home though.
Oh BTW, I am selling that truck. Good truck.. especially since I replaced everything on it!
I bought a different truck for the Alaska toys I haul.
If you know someone, give me a shout.
Up: send me an e-mail description of the truck & I'll put it on the building bulletin board.

Rev. I have relatives in today and for the next week or so... FUN. Can I get that to you next week? I have your email, I also want to get a new pic for it.
That's fine, Up. Whenever you're ready.
