Saturday Morning

Good morning!

It's 47 and breezy, with a high overcast. There was some rain overnight, but these winds will dry things out soon enough. It's nice not to have a dusty haze in the air at this hour, though. I note more fresh snow above 2,500 feet on the mountainsides above town.

Here's a little Alaskan news:

Gov. Palin has asked the President to reconsider his recent cuts to the missile defense program. There are missiles here in Alaska which provide a shield against the Korean threat, and his new budget cuts the program to the bone. Perhaps that's not the best of ideas, given the proclivities of NoKo's Menta Lee Il.

An oil company's 737 with 135 passengers returned safely to Fairbanks after taking off and running into a flock of ducks. No injuries were reported.

The wildfire near McGrath continues to grow slowly, and is estimated at about 22,600 acres. The cool, rainy weather has been helping slow down the fire & hold down the dust. The best news is that it's moving away from McGrath, and now threatens only cabins along the Takotna and Kuskokwim rivers.

On a personal note, I have no big plans for the day. My wife & youngest are going shopping this morning, looking for ingredients for a special meal.

My oldest & I will head off to Lowe's to get some more practical things for minor repairs around the ol' homestead. I also want to pop into the Fred Meyer store, where all their firearms are on sale this month. I'm looking at Smith and Wesson's Sigma 40S&W pistol and a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .30-06.

Father's Day is coming up, you know!

"Father's Day is coming up, you know."

Yeah, and I'm about up to Father's Day 2015, Christmas 2023 and Birthday 2017.

Yes, that does sound like you've exceeded your quota! I've tried not to get that far ahead, but fear I'm not too far behind you.

Lol, even though the misses and I don't have any wee ones yet. My next few Christmas and birthdays are going to be getting a birthday cake and thats about it. I recently got myself an AR-15 and a few thousands rounds of ammo. So that means no more presents to me for until I get out of grad school most likely.

Love it! I'm gonna leave your blog on my computer, that way I can read all I've missed the past 2 weeks when I go back up to the cabin. (No landline or internet there) Only won't be able to give my ever pithy comments though! Have a great weekend friend!
