Thursday Thoughts

Good morning!
.
It's 58 & breezy, with a passing shower or two. As long as it holds the ash down, we're good.
.
The fishing season is upon us; here's a picture from today's paper, showing a halibut catch.
.
.
Two more homeless men have died, apparently not due to any foul play, according to police. That makes six who have died since the beginning of May. Alcohol poisoning and exposure seem to top the list of possible causes.
.
The State Personnel Board has dismissed another frivolous ethics complaint against Gov. Palin. This is getting tiresome, folks. Let the woman concentrate on doing her job. Good. Grief. The naysayers complained BITTERLY when she was campaigning for VP, because she wasn't here. Now that she's back, they file serial complaints about every other breath she takes. Shut up already, and back a candidate for next year's election; do something useful for a change.
.
The Anchorage Fire Department has been randomly closing various fire stations as part of its cost-cutting efforts. Naturally, they don't particularly want the individual closures made public. The Department is concerned about vandalism at the closed stations; the public is much more concerned about fire protection.
.
It seems that the firefighters disagree with the official policy. Some have been posting the station closures on Twitter.
.
Speaking of Gov. Palin, it seems there's a growing rift between her office and Senator Mark Begich (D-AK). He's complaining that the natural gas pipeline should already have been moving forward; she says he's "uninformed." You can read the rest here.
.
That's about it for now. Enjoy your day, folks, and thanks for stopping by.

Do you think that if they keep complaining about Gov. Palin she'll just give up? Have you ever met her?

Deedee, they know she won't give up, hence the ethics complaints. They want to keep her so busy defending herself that she can't do anything else.

I haven't met her personally, but we have mutual friends. I do hope to speak with her one of these days; Alaska's kind of a small place when it comes to knowing other folks.

I have met Gov. Palin. If you ever met an Alaskan, we don't give up easily. And we get annoyed with whiners and complainers.

Alaska is very small deedee. True Alaskan's help each other out. I wish I could help out the Gov. more, but that might get her in more trouble.

I would like to make that halibut fishing trip just ONE more time!

Guy, the halibut are a bit smaller than they used to be, unless you're willing to have the charter boat head a bit farther out. We don't see many of the 400+lb halibut, like a few years ago. 300 lb is still fairly common, though.
