As the days count down, the frenzy of Palin's announcement, her stepping-down and the swearing in of Lt. Governor Sean Parnell to the Governor's seat, seems to be the national highlight this coming Sunday.
Gov. Sarah Palin said she’ll transfer power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell at the
event. She announced her resignation July 3. Parnell will be sworn into office
in a ceremony following a few hours of hot dogs and hamburgers at Pioneer Park.
Alaska’s Military Affairs Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Craig Campbell, is likely
to be sworn into the lieutenant governor job at that time, organizers said.
Security is expected to tighter than usual and media credentials will be
checked, organizers from Palin’s office and Pioneer Park said.
The governor’s communications director, Dave Murrow, said C-SPAN is the
only outlet to have queried the office so far. He’s expecting plenty more as the
date nears and Lower 48 talking heads debate whether the governor’s resignation
is really the beginning of a campaign for national office.
Why Fairbanks and not Juneau? It was the original city that helped shape Alaska into becoming a State. Many men went to Fairbanks to start the paperwork and hold a Constitutional Convention, where a speech was made and the Constitution of Alaska was formed. This is also called the Alaska Statehood Act. The only deciding factor for becoming a State was the 36th Vice President, Richard Nixon cast the deciding vote as the Senate was deadlocked ... Vice-President Nixon's vote to solve the split is the only reason Alaska is now a State.
The Picnic in Fairbanks will be held at Pioneer Park from 12-3 on Sunday, July 26th.
There will also be a Governors Picnic in Wasilla, at the Iditarod Park from 4:30-7:30 Friday, July 24th.

And anyone carrying said credentials from CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and CNN will be executed...I mean...excused from the proceedings.
Not a bad idea. They wouldn't report it accurately, anyway.
