Psalm 22:27-28: “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. For the kingdom is the Lord's, and he ruleth among the nations.”
I wonder sometimes how much of this sense of "national unity" in the past was ever as real as we like to imagine though. Even leaving out the Late Unpleasantness, the Progressive era through the lead in to WWII has a nasty propagandist odour to it the more I look into it. But then, I was raised in an "FDR could do no wrong" family.
Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were both "progressives", and FDR's staff, Cabinet, and department heads were all progressives and collectivists. You do well to shudder - in fact, the "New Deal" was very, very similar to what the current administration is doing now.
